Hmmmm....

Housewife Day

When : Always November 3rd

Housewife Day recognizes the importance of stay at home wives and moms. Also referred to as "Retro" Housewife Day. These wonderful, caring creatures, build and enrich strong family environments. They help to instill family values and good character.

Housewife is an old term. It hails back to the days when one income could support the family in a manner of comfort. It was also a time when women did not have equal rights. While these days are long gone, women views of working or staying at home, fall on both sides of the fence. The decision to be a "housewife", or stay at home mom, is still preferred by many. Unfortunately, income needs often necessitate going to work.

Today, we celebrate and thank all of the ladies who choose to stay home and tend to the house and family!

How will I celebrate this special day? I will celebrate this day, by honoring my beloved wife, and thanking her for staying home for the family during the child rearing years. Without a doubt, our children grew up much better for it. And, I benefitted by the many sacrifices she made by staying home.

Flower of the Day: Lavender

Recipe of the Day: Pumpkin Roll
House Wife Day?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Origin of Housewife Day:
We did not find the originator of this special day. Nor, did we find any factual information.

We suspect this day was created by a housewife. By their very nature, housewives tend to stay out of the spotlight. If a housewife indeed created this day, it would be typical of her not to take credit. The other likely creator, is a husband. In this event, he simply wants to tell the world how lucky he is to have her.

I welcome comments... :)

A Significant Reminder

My Grandfather preached a sermon, about two years ago. In it, he talked about an experience he had when he was younger. As he was walking among gravestones in a cemetery, a particular one caught his eye. On it was written:

"When you read this as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I,
As I am now, soon you'll be,
So prepare in time to follow me."

Just a reminder of how short this life is, is there someone you know who isn't saved? Will you tell them how they can escape eternal wrath?

The Great Chicken Coop Massacre...

...of 2010.

I woke up Friday morning and looked out the kitchen window, I noticed our beautiful, sweet tempered black hen, Pet, was lying on the ground 'resting', or so I thought, later, Grace come running in and says, "Clooney(our Leghorn rooster), and Pet are dead and we lost a guinea!" I ran out there and sure enough, they where...well,...mangled. I'll spare you the details. So I put on the rubber gloves, got a shovel, and headed out there to 'dispose' of the temporarily. Daddy came home and said it was a weasel. He put gravel and more chicken wire in some places that where big enough for a weasel to get through. Earlier last year, a coy dog got 2 of our guineas, and 2 chickens, and the morning after that accident, Margaret had died of shock. (Seriously she did). So our poultry count was 1 rooster, 4 hens, and 5 guineas...until this 2 day massacre. This morning, we heard all this racket coming from the coop, so we went out side and 2 out our 3 hens that were left from yesterday's killing, where dead also! So know, because of a weasel, we're left with one, white leghorn layer. So goes the story of farm life...

On a lighter note, We're coming really close to house-breaking Ellie Evangeline. (Yes, we decided to give her a shorter name:)) She's doing wonderful.

Should Prayer Even Be in School? Part 1

(View Down Our Drive-Way After Snow)

The turn of the nineteenth century brought many new changes to The United States. A government had been formed, the Constitution had been ratified, the first president was elected, but most importantly, we were a nation. One nation under God. The Founding Fathers understood this and they were Christians. While much has been written and revised concerning the faith of the Founding Fathers, the facts still remain. Clearly, there was prevalent Christian consensus in their thinking. Evidence of this strong Biblical world-view is seen in numerous quotes, letters, speeches, advice, and even in our own Constitution. However, we as Americans are losing sight of these facts in our history. One example of the Founding Father's beliefs is in a circulatory letter addressed to the Governors of all the states, George Washington wrote what would become known as his “Earnest Prayer”: “I now make it my earnest prayer that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in His holy protection;...” George Washington recognized that God was the matchless protector. He goes on to say that, “he would incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow-citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for brethren who have served in the field; and finally that He would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy nation.”1
However, George Washington was not the only Founding Father who held a strong
faith in the Almighty. Patrick Henry, the well known former Governor of Virginia stated that,
“It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ,”2
Where did the solid, biblical, leadership of our country go? Did it leave with our nation's founders?

Compassion Sunday is Coming!

On April 18, I will be giving a presentation at our church on Compassion Sunday! http://www.compassionsunday.com/ This is definitely going to be a new experience! I've sang at church, I've done Bible Drills at church, I even play the piano at church, but I've never given a power point presentation, or prepared to talk about something this important before!

But honestly, I can't wait!
Compassion Sunday is about showing your church the many, many faces of poverty.
It's about giving hope to those without anything, including Jesus. It makes people aware of the devastation of body, soul, and life in places like: Haiti, India, The Philippines, Africa... and so many others. This program also brings the saving knowledge of Jesus, and the hope of salvation, along with healthy food, clean water, money for clothes, and a new home, even a birthday present. Compassion does it, one child at a time. Sponsoring means SO much to a child and their family.
Is there some way you can help? www.compassion.com

May God Bless,

I'm Back!

Here are my excuses for not posting anything for 2 weeks:

#1- For the past 4 days, our Internet was down.
#2- It's been snowing, and snowing, and who wants to sit in front of a computer when you can be out enjoying the cold, wet, cold, white, cold snow.:) (Yep, I'm cold.)
#3- I haven't had anything to really write about except the unusual snow we've been having. My Daddy said that he doesn't remember a snow like this one since he was little! I've never seen more than three inches of snow in my life, and here I am, outside standing in about 6 inches! (For those of you who live up north, and have experience with a LOT of snow, this is BIG news here in the south.:)

Anyway, I'll post some 'snowy' pictures when I can get Momma's camera and upload them. Yeah, I didn't take any of the 4 snow men we built in Grandpa and Grandma's backyard, or the wild snow ball fights that broke out amongst us kids, and even the adults. Or, better yet, Grace and I wiping out in the sled that was being pulled behind the 4 wheeler! (Peaked your interest yet?)

On a different note, my little sister, Ava, is turning BIG #3 this Thursday!
It's SO hard to believe it's been three whole years since we first saw her!
I'll put up a B-day post for her on Thursday.

So, we've pretty much been stuck in the house for 4 days. We couldn't even go to church on Sunday because the roads where so icy and slick. So we had church at home!
We read about Paul's conversion, and had prayer, then we sang,
"When da roll a call a londer" (that's how Ava says, "When the Roll is Called up Yonder.")

Well, I guess that's all for now!

I leave now to do laundry...

Halloween...or Helloween?

Think about it.
What comes to mind when you hear the word, 'halloween'?
Candy...skeletons...black cats...witches...gory masks...darkness?
I can guarantee it's not, truth...honor...justice...purity...loveliness...or anything commendable.
Philippians 4:8 says, " Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable- if there is any praise- dwell on these things."
Aren't we supposed to do EVERYTHING to the glory and praise of God?
What is the spirit that comes with halloween?

" Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you:
God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. If we say, " We have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.." 1 John 1:5-7

Now, when do people usually go trick or treating?
Uh, huh. Night time. When it's DARK.
I'm not saying that John is talking about literal darkness, but, you can apply it because the darkness has a bad confrontation.
Death is the center of hellowe-I mean, halloween. :)

Do you know the history of halloween?
It's PAGAN!!!

" The celts celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the druids, or celtic priest, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies where an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.

To commemorate the event, druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the celtic deites.

During the celebration, the celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each others fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter." from, history.com

Besides, candy is bad for you anyway :)

Blessings,
Kathrann

" Little children, let no one deceive you! The one who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. The one who commits sin is of the Devil, for the Devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the Devil's works. Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because His seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God. This is how God's children-and the Devil's children-are made evident..."
